O'Donoghue: GAA vote is 'positive and historic'

16/04/2005 - 18:07:51
The Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O’Donoghue has welcomed the decision today at the GAA Annual Congress to allow the temporary relaxation of Rule 42.

The minister described the move and “positive and historic”.

He said: “I am relieved, also, that we are going to be in a position to host our international home games at home in soccer and rugby while Lansdowne Road is being redeveloped.”

Minister O’Donoghue congratulated the leadership of the GAA for inspiring the organisation to move in this direction.

He also claimed that the Government’s decision to donate €40m to the GAA for the development of Croke Park, increasing its contribution to €110m, removed any final obstacles that might have prevented the satisfactory resolution of the issue.
