Man questioned over martial arts champion's murder
A man is being questioned today in connection with the shooting dead of a martial arts champion in a Dublin city pub a fortnight ago.
The man, who is in his 40s, was arrested at Meath Street in the city as part of the investigation into the death of James Curran.
He is being detained at Kevin Street garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Mr Curran was shot in the head as he drank in the Green Lizard pub on Francis Street in Dublin along with 30 other people gathered for a karaoke session on April 3 last.
Gardaí believe the killer may have been in the pub for some time before he fired shots at Mr Curran.
Several people have been arrested for questioning about the murder and released without charge.
The 42-year-old champion kick boxer was originally from the area but had recently been living in Santry.
Mr Curran trained young people in martial arts in a room on Meath Street near the scene of the shooting.
The early indications were that the killing may have been a revenge attack following Mr Curran’s involvement in a recent altercation.
