Carlow businesses bear brunt of costs of water parasites

Businesses in Carlow town are facing steep bills as the town's drinking water supply continues to be off limits after parasites were found in it.

Health officials have warned consumers not to drink the water for up to five weeks.

Some 20,000 people, involving 8,000 householders and businesses, are affected.

But hotels, bars and restaurants are bearing the most significant cost by having to buy in stocks of bottled water and ice.
