Italy prepare to name new coach
Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) president Giancarlo Dondi believes he will be in a position to name a new coach for the national team early next week.
Reports suggest a Frenchman – possibly Pierre Berbizier – has been shortlisted already for the post, but Dondi claims the deal is not yet done to name the successor to John Kirwan.
Dondi confirmed there is a front-runner but did not give any clues to his identity.
Dondi said: “We have talked a lot with him (the new coach) in the last few days and to be honest both parties are happy about everything.
“But he wants a few more days to decide.
“I’m sure on Monday or Tuesday we will have his final decision which hopefully will be positive for us.”
Kirwan was removed from his post after Italy ended up with the wooden spoon in this year’s RBS 6 Nations tournament.
