Labour criticises McDowell after latest gangland shooting

15/04/2005 - 10:46:17
The Labour Party has criticised Justice Minister Michael McDowell's failure to crack down on gun crime.

The criticism follows the murder of a man in the Ballybough area of Dublin last night, the second fatal gangland shooting in the capital this week.

Labour TD Joe Costello said the minister needed to provide more resources to the Gardaí to help them apprehend those responsible for the killings.

"What's needed is for the minister to sit down with the Garda Commissioner to put together a comprehensive plan with adequate resources and adequate personnel to deal with it," he said.

"[At the moment] we are not getting any proper results from the authorities who are dealing with it."
