ISME issues optimistic assessment of employment prospects
15/04/2005 - 12:36:39The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association has issued an optimistic assessment of employment prospects over the coming year.
In its latest quarterly report, the association said more than one-third of companies were planning to take on staff in the next 12 months.
ISME chief executive Mark Fielding said migrant workers would probably be needed to fill many of the posts.
"Small and medium businesses are looking for about 20,000 new employees in the coming year," he said.
"So what we'd be calling for here is a comprehensive immigration policy with a well-planned system in order to identify and attract foreign workers into the country to actually fill the jobs that are in prospect."
