264 patients waiting on trolleys in A&E units today
14/04/2005 - 11:57:05Two hundred and sixty-four patients were waiting on trolleys in accident and emergency departments this morning, according to the Irish Nurses Organisation.
The INO said more than half of these patients were in the Dublin area, with Beaumont, Tallaght and Mater the worst-affected hospitals.
The figures were released as nurses prepare for to engage in half-hour lunchtime protests at hospitals in Mayo, Cavan and Tallaght today.
The protests are part of a series due to take place at selected hospitals this month in an effort to highlight growing anger at the problem of A&E overcrowding and the Government's failure to address the matter.
