Gilligan plays down Banner form

12/04/2005 - 07:56:16
Niall Gilligan yesterday played down Clare's amazing run of form in the league ahead of the Munster championship.

The Clare ace, who picked up the Vodafone Player of the Month award for March, was a key part of the Banner side that saw off Kilkenny, Waterford and Tipperary in recent league outings.

However, he stressed that Clare's league form was being measured against a poor start for the Banner.

He said: "Things have gone very well the past few weeks because the league started off fairly poorly for us. We were disappointing against Dublin and Laois and we were terrible against Galway. It's good that things are going okay again now."

He also added that league form goes out the window come championship time.

"We were moving well in the league this time last year as well and Waterford came out and beat us by 18 points in Munster."
