Etlaala team leans towards Craven

12/04/2005 - 16:54:12
Trainer Barry Hills has indicated that Etlaala is most likely to run in Thursday’s bet365 Craven Stakes at Newmarket.

The three-year-old son of Selkirk is also entered for the Lane’s End Greenham Stakes at Newbury but connections had been mulling over whether to tackle either contest or have a racecourse gallop instead.

However, Hills is leaning towards running Etlaala in the Craven, a race the Lambourn handler won last year with Haafhd before he went on to 2000 Guineas success.

Hills said today: “At the moment he’s going to run on Thursday in the Craven but it’s not set in stone. It could change in the morning.

“He could work after racing on Thursday or he could go to Newbury but at the moment the preference is to run in the Craven Stakes.”

Etlaala won the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last year before disappointing in the Dewhurst Stakes on his final start.

The Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned colt is as low as 10-1 with William Hill for the UltimatePoker.com 2000 Guineas.
