Amicus against Rabbitte pact plans

A second trade union is set to come out against a plan by Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte to rule out a coalition with Fianna Fáil after the next general election.

Mr Rabbitte is set to bring a motion before the party's conference in Tralee, Co Kerry, next month tying the party into a pre-election alliance with Fine Gael and the Green Party.

However, reports this morning said Amicus was also due to table a motion opposing the planned alliance.

The ATGWU has already expressed its opposition to Mr Rabbitte's plan, which is expected to get the support of Labour delegates despite the unions' stance.
