Ruwi romps home
10/04/2005 - 15:53:22Jean-Claude Rouget’s Ruwi stretched his unbeaten record to four with a hugely impressive victory in the Group Two Prix Noailles at Longchamp today.
Ruwi looks to have the world at his feet after easily winning this early French Derby trial over an extended 10 furlongs in the hands of Ioritz Mendizabal on heavy ground.
The French champion jockey had the son of Unfuwain last of the five runners as Olivier Peslier’s Gold Sound had control.
Andre Fabre’s odds-on favourite Desideratum was handily-placed in the middle of the pack but failed to make an impression as Ruwi clinched victory in a matter of strides to score by three lengths.
“Quite simply, he’s a champion,” said Mendizabal.
Rouget added: “He’s a very, very good horse.”
