Quinn goal crucial for Clare
Tipperary 0-15 Clare 1-16
Andrew Quinn netted the decisive goal for Clare in their 1-16 to 0-15 Allianz NHL Division 1 second phase win over Tipperary at Semple Stadium today.
Both Brian and Frank Lohan saw yellow, along with Tipperary's Michael Webster but Anthony Daly's men won out nonetheless, thanks to the sharp-shooting of old hands Niall Gilligan and defiant centre back Sean McMahon - who contributed nine of the Banner men's points.
The visitors carved open a 1-08 to 0-06 with Gilligan as accurate as ever and Quinn making full use of a slip by Tipp corner back Paul Curran to find the net on 16 minutes.
Despite being 0-06 to 1-12 down with just 25 minutes remaining, the home side charged back well with Eoin Kelly, Paul Kelly, substitute Darragh Egan and Paddy O'Brien chipping in with well-taken scores.
With Tipp back to just a goal down, McMahon - a rock at the back for the visitors - and Tom Carmody tagged on late points for Clare to ensure their first league win over their hosts in Thurles.
Next Sunday's Ennis clash with All-Ireland champions Cork should really test Daly's side's title mettle.
