Thousands expected to attend Mass for Pope in Phoenix Park

08/04/2005 - 14:08:23
Thousands of people are expected to attend a remembrance ceremony for Pope John Paul II in Dublin's Phoenix Park this evening.

The Mass to mark the burial of the Pontiff this morning will be held at the Papal Cross, where more than a million people gathered for the Pope's visit in 1979.

The Phoenix Park has been closed for the event and motorists have also been warned that no parking will be available in the vicinity.

However, Dublin Bus is running a free bus service from George's Quay, just beside Tara Street DART station, to the Phoenix monument between 2pm and 6pm.
