Teen prowler told to apologise to elderly woman
A teenage boy, who was caught prowling around an elderly woman’s house, has been ordered to go to her house under garda escort to apologise face to face.
The 16-year-old boy had pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children’s Court to trespassing in the woman’s back yard with intent to commit an offence April 20, 2003.
Gardaí were called to the house after the reports from the elderly woman that people were creating a racket in the back yard of her Crumlin home and she was afraid.
The teenager, who had no previous convictions, was caught with a friend in the backyard by a garda.
Judge Cormac Dunne also heard that the woman has had several problems with prowlers in the past.
“I imagine her confidence in her safety has been shattered. I will remand you on bail on condition that you are brought to the woman’s home under garda supervision to meet the woman face to face. Maybe you will understand the feelings of elderly people better after this.”
The case was adjourned with the proposed meeting made a condition of the teenager’s bail.
