Beaumont Hospital to screen all dialysis patients for Hep B
08/04/2005 - 12:58:22Dublin's Beaumont Hospital has confirmed that one of its kidney dialysis patients has tested positive for Hepatitis B.
The hospital said it would respond to the positive test by screening all its dialysis patients for the virus.
It said the move was precautionary as all dialysis patients are tested ever three months and none of them returned a positive result for Hepatitis B when the last round of testing was conducted in March.
Hepatitis B is a serious disease caused by a virus that attacks the liver. It can cause a life-long infection, liver cancer, liver failure and even death.
