Chris Kinane, assistant trainer to Ian Williams, is reported to be in a stable condition this morning after receiving a kick to the head in the parade ring at Wolverhampton on Saturday night.

Kinane was about to give jockey Jamie Spencer a leg-up onto a runner from Williams’ stable when another another horse lashed out and caught him on the head.

The 48-year-old was knocked unconscious and was taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton before being transferred to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital later on Saturday night.

He underwent an operation and after initially being in the hospital’s neuro-critical care unit, Kinane has now been transferred to a normal ward.

A hospital spokeswoman said: “He is in a stable condition and was transferred from the neuro-critical care unit last night."
