Stoppage by security staff ‘will have limited effect’

07/04/2005 - 09:04:47
Ireland’s main banks have reportedly insisted that a planned one-day stoppage by security van workers will not cause major disruption to ATM services.

Reports this morning said the banks were insisting that the stoppage would only affect a small number of ATMs, mainly “off-site” machines in locations like garage forecourts.

Around 400 security van workers from a number of companies are due to go on strike on Friday week to protest at the threat to their safety from criminal gangs.

The stoppage follows a spate of high-profile security van robberies in the past 18 months, including one in which a worker’s family was taken hostage and another in which a staff member was shot.
