Mini boom boosts BMW's coffers

Sales of Mini cars were up more than 10% in the first quarter of the year, helping to boost parent company BMW’s coffers, the German manufacturer said today.

But sales of the company’s luxury Rolls Royce’s fell by more than 9% over the same period last year – only 126 Phantoms were sold.

BMW said its total sales during the first quarter of 2005 rose 8.2% from the same period a year ago, with the US and Germany its top markets.

Sales of British made Minis were up 10.3% to 52,694 cars from 47,774.
