Cullen to propose privatisation of 51% of Aer Lingus

07/04/2005 - 07:38:20
Transport Minister Martin Cullen is reportedly set to bring proposals before the cabinet next week that will see the Government selling a majority share in Aer Lingus to private investors.

Reports this morning said the privatisation, which is part of a comprehensive overhaul of the aviation sector, could be completed by the end of this year and could raise €300m for the state.

The reports also said that Mr Cullen’s proposals included the construction of a second terminal at Dublin Airport that would remain under the control of the Dublin Airport Authority.

Such a move would disappoint Ryanair, which has been extremely vocal in recent years in calling for a privately-owned second terminal.
