21,000 days lost to industrial disputes in 2004
07/04/2005 - 11:44:57During 2004 there were 20,784 days lost to industrial disputes, the Central Statistics Office reported today. This compares with 37,482 days lost in 2003.
There were a total of 11 industrial disputes in 2004 compared with 24 in 2003. The 11 disputes in progress in 2004 affected 10,227 workers and 11 firms.
In 2004 the Transport, storage and communication area accounted for 12,340 (59%) of the total days lost.
12,340 days were lost in last three months of 2004 compared with 4,267 days lost in the fourth quarter of 2003.
The three disputes in progress during the fourth quarter of 2004 involved 8,345 workers and three firms.
