Saudi forces kill one of country's most-wanted

06/04/2005 - 10:32:30
Security forces killed one of Saudi Arabia’s most-wanted Islamic terrorists in the capital Riyadh today.

Abdul-Rahman Mohammed Mohammed Yazji was shot dead when police raided an apartment. He was number 25 on the country’s list of 26 most wanted terrorists.

Two other militants and a member of the security forces were killed in the raid, a security official added.

The morning raid came hours after security forces ended a three-day battle with a nest of militants in the desert town of Rass, 220 miles north-west of Riyadh.

The battle, which ended last night when security forces stormed the extremists’ hideout, left 14 militants dead, six captured and 14 security personnel wounded. Among the dead were two al-Qaida leaders.
