Huth ready to snub Bayern
German defender Robert Huth has underlined his determination to stay at Chelsea despite interest from tonight’s Champions League opponents Bayern Munich.
Huth will be a summer target for the Germans who have already been in touch with the Barclays Premiership leaders about his availability.
But Huth, fit again after a string of injuries this season, is adamant that he wants to remain at Stamford Bridge next season because he loves life in the English capital.
Huth said: “I’ve heard about their interest and as far as I know their officials have made contact with Chelsea. But as far as I am concerned, I want to stay at Chelsea. I love the club and I love the city.
“Unless the club want to get rid of me, then I want to stay here. Of course it is frustrating not playing, but I’ve improved as a player since Jose Mourinho took over and since I’ve been fit from the last injury, I’ve been playing and that gives me hope.
“It’s always been the case for me of showing the new manager what I can do. I think I’ve done well enough to show him that he can trust me. Hopefully I’ll get more games.”
Huth knows that he needs to play more first-team games in order to be part of Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s plans for the 2006 World Cup in his homeland.
He added: “I’m going to do my best but Mr Klinsmann will be the man to make the final decision.”
Chelsea reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, only to be knocked out by Monaco when the final was within their grasp.
However, Huth says that under former manager Claudio Ranieri the players did not have the same winning belief that Mourinho has now instilled into them.
Indeed, the German defender even went as far as saying that the players did not believe they could win anything under their former boss.
Huth added: “We are even stronger than last season and have a great chance of getting to the final. Jose gives 100% and expects 100% from you. When you have got a manager behind you like that then you do the same for him.
“He’s just a winner and has a belief in the team. Last season we were a winning team but looking back we never really thought we could win anything but this year we do actually believe we can win things.”
