Unions concerned by plans to cut Health Service jobs

06/04/2005 - 19:28:47
Unions representing health workers are expressing concern that 600 redundancies are on the cards.

A €11bn plan has been unveiled for the next 12 months.

€200m is to be spent on A & E and related services in hospitals around the country.

The Health Service Executive has said the 600 jobs will go but front-line services will not be affected.

IMPACT and the Irish Nurses Organisation have said that is not possible.

Liam Doran of the INO will meet with Health Service executives tomorrow.

“This plans speaks of 600 job cuts by natural wastage, how will that be brought about?” he said.

“It will inevitably in our opinion hit front line staff which is contrary to what has been said by management to date.”
