Police look for new information in 30-year-old murder case

06/04/2005 - 08:48:52
A number of people are being questioned today about the murder of a nationalist councillor in the North more than 30 years ago.

They were detained by officers investigating the shooting of the man whose body was later found dumped in a lake.

Patrick Kelly disappeared after leaving his pub in Trillick, Co Tyrone, in July 1974 and his body was recovered some weeks later in a lake not far away.

At the time Mr Kelly was a member of Omagh District Council.

Local people claimed members of the then Ulster Defence Regiment were involved in the killing and at least one ex-soldier was questioned.

It is not known whether he was among four men detained yesterday and taken for questioning by detectives at Antrim.
