Turkish firm’s workers take low-pay protest to Galway

Hundreds of workers from the Turkish construction firm Gama are due to mount a demonstration at the Tynagh power station in Galway today to protest at their wages.

Around 350 workers have travelled from Dublin to join their colleagues in Galway on the protest.

It emerged earlier this year that Gama had been paying extremely low wages to its workers in Ireland, but the company subsequently said the remainder of their pay had been lodged in special bank accounts in Holland.

The workers say they were never told about these accounts, the amount of money in them or how they can access the cash.
