Howlin describes Live Register increase as ‘alarming’

Labour Party TD Brendan Howlin has expressed concern about the rise in the Live Register figures announced by the Central Statistics Office today.

The CSO said the number of people claiming unemployment benefits rose by 3,100 in March when seasonal factors were taken into account.

"It's alarming that there is an increase of 3,000 in a month," Mr Howlin said. "Overall unemployment rates are still very good in this country, but we can't be complacent."
