Child benefit increases to come into effect from today
05/04/2005 - 07:20:03More than half a million families are set to benefit from child benefit increases due to come into effect from today, according to the Department of Social and Family Affairs.
The increases will see payments rise by €10 a month by the first and second child and by €12 a month for subsequent children.
This brings the total level of child benefit up to €141 a month for the first and second children and more than €177 a month for subsequent children.
The department said families who receive payments via electronic methods would receive the extra cash from today, while those paid manually would receive the increase from the start of May.
