04/04/2005 - 10:14:07
Ailing Prince Rainier remained in stable condition in a Monaco hospital today but his palace said the medical prognosis was still guarded.

The brief medical update, signed by his three doctors, provided no details on the condition of the 81-year-old prince who suffers respiratory, heart and kidney problems.

He has been in intensive care since March 22.

“The biological parameters are stable on the whole,” the statement issued by the palace and signed by Rainier’s team of three doctors said. “However, the vital prognostic remains guarded.”

Rainier, who has been on a respirator and has undergone kidney dialysis, has been in Monaco’s Cardio-Thoracic Centre since March 7.

He was admitted to hospital with a chest infection and appeared to be back on the road to good health when his condition took a turn for the worse. He was transferred to intensive care after suffering heart and lung failure.
