Longford face vital clash with Linfield

04/04/2005 - 08:55:51
Alan Mathew's Longford Town will put their Setanta Cup hopes on the line tonight when they face Irish League giants Linfield at Flancare Park.

Having lost their Cup opener 2-1 against Glentoran, Town know a second defeat would all but end their hopes of reaching the final.

On top of that, they go into the game in disappointing form having lost their two League games to date though manager Alan Mathews believes a change of fortunes is deserved.

“We’re playing well and I know we have a good game against Linfield though we know it is going to be tough,” said Mathews.

With Alan Murphy, Tom Mohan and Davy Byrne all injured, Mathews will be forced to make at least one change from last Thursday’s 1-0 defeat by Cork City.

Linfield, meanwhile, will be at full strength for the clash. Currently one point clear at the top of the Irish League, the Belfast giants are on course for their 46th League title and will be hoping to make it a winning start to their Setanta Cup campaign.
