Schools given option to close for Pope’s funeral

Schools will have the option of closing on Friday as a mark of respect for Pope John Paul II, who will be buried that day.

The decision on whether or not to close has been left up to schools' boards of management.

This closure would be regarded as an exceptional closure and it would not be required to be made up for the purposes of observing the full length of the school year.
