Minister Ahern appointed special envoy to UN
04/04/2005 - 16:59:54The Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern has been appointed as a special envoy to the United Nations.
Mr Ahern and three other appointees will prepare reports for a Special UN Summit on Global development which takes place in New York next September.
The summit will address issues such as reform of the United Nations.
Dermot Ahern has been chosen as one of four other prominent political appointees as UN envoy.
He will report to the UN on security, industrial development, human rights and poverty in Europe and Russia and ultimately present a package of proposals.
