Consumers' Association calls for day's mourning

The Consumers' Association has called on the Government to declare a national day of mourning for the Pope.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has already ruled out such a move, which would see all workers being given a public holiday to mark the death of John Paul II.

Consumers' Association spokesman Michael Kilcoyne said: "People should be given the opportunity to take part in church services and religious services and to mourn what was one of the greatest leaders that we've had."
