Bakke injury nightmare continues
Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell has revealed midfielder Eirik Bakke is unlikely to play again this season.
Bakke has played just two minutes of first-team football this campaign, coming on as a late substitute in a 1-1 Elland Road draw against Brighton on January 29 after nine months on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament injury.
The Norwegian then soon required a further minor knee operation from which he continues to recover, leaving Blackwell to comment: “The last year has been an absolute nightmare for Eirik.
“If he plays again before the end of the season it will be a big bonus for us, but at the moment I’m not expecting to have him available because he’s got another fortnight of rehabilitation to go and he’ll then need to build up his match fitness.
“By the time he does that, we’ll probably be out of games.”
Blackwell added in the Yorkshire Evening Post: “He’s doing his best to keep upbeat but it’s a depressing situation for him and I can understand how he’s feeling. Eirik’s needed a bit of luck with this and he hasn’t had any.”
