Two more Filipinas receive compensation from Irish Ferries
Two more Filipina women who were temporarily employed by Irish Ferries for just €1 an hour have reportedly reached cash settlements with the company.
Reports this morning said the two received just over €2,000 each in compensation after being hired to work 12 hours a day for just €354 a month.
The pair were sacked by Irish Ferries after their wage rates came to the light.
The company has insisted their contracts were drawn up by a recruitment agency and it was not aware of the low levels of pay they were receiving.
Earlier this week, SIPTU negotiated a €25,000 settlement for a Filipina beautician who was hired on the €1 an hour contract.
The case of Salvacion Orge had led to the low-pay situation becoming public.
This morning's reports said more women may be caught up in the controversy as Irish Ferries was unable to say how many people it had hired on the contracts.
