Adoption group says new register is step in right direction
30/03/2005 - 12:11:24The body representing adopted people in Ireland has welcomed the official launch of a new register to help adopted people contact their natural parents.
Adopted people and their birth parents can put their names on the register and, if a match is made, both parties will be informed individually and offered the opportunity to make contact with each other.
Adoption Ireland spokesperson Susan Lohan said: "It's the first in many steps which the Department of Health need to implement.
"It certainly will allow adopted people bypass the myriad of waiting lists which are found in almost all of Ireland's adoption agencies, many of whom don't event actually employ social workers any more."
