Bar workers' health improving, says OTC

The workplace smoking ban introduced a year ago has already made a difference to the health of bar workers, according to the Office of Tobacco Control.

The OTC said preliminary results of tests carried out in 40 pubs around Dublin showed a dramatic improvement in air quality.

The tests, conducted by respiratory experts from St James's Hospital, also found a 45% decrease in levels of harmful carbon monoxide among a sample group of non-smoking barmen.

The Office of Tobacco Control also said the smoking ban was prompting people to give up cigarettes.
