No early holidays for suspended duo

28/03/2005 - 16:09:07
Roy Keane and Stephen Carr have been warned by Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr not to take any early summer holidays.

Manchester United midfielder Keane and Newcastle right-back Carr were both booked on Saturday during the 1-1 World Cup Group Four qualifying draw against Israel in Tel Aviv.

For both players it was the second caution of their campaign, immediately ruling them out of the next group clash, against the Israelis at Lansdowne Road on June 4.

But with Ireland playing a testimonial for Celtic defender Jackie McNamara at Parkhead on May 29 and, more importantly, a qualifier in Torshavn against the Faroe Islands on June 8, Kerr wants both players available.

“I’ve thought about the future in relation to Stephen and Roy already,” said Kerr.

“Those two group games are back to back at a key time in qualifying and preparations for those games will be the same for all the players.

“Roy and Stephen obviously are not eligible for the first game, but they are for the second.

“So I hope they will be part of the full programme in advance of that which involves the game at Celtic Park.”
