Westmeath 3-8 Tyrone 1-24

Tyrone are sitting pretty at the top of the NFL Division 1A table tonight after a facile win over Westmeath at Mullingar.

A goal from Sean Kavanagh on six minutes sent the visitors on their way and they had clocked up a 1-7 to 0-2 lead after 18 minutes as five of their six forwards scored from play.

They stretched that lead to 1-12 to 0-3 at half-time, with six points coming from the impressive Stephen O’Neill.

But there was hope for Westmeath early in the second half as the home side scored two goals in the first five minutes.

Martin Flanagan palmed in after 90 seconds. Three minutes later Dessie Dolan received a long ball from midfield, turned and flashed the ball to the roof of the net.

Tyrone responded in style as they reeled off four points without reply to quell any hopes of a Westmeath revival.

Westmeath did hit back with another goal but never looked like closing the gap on table-toppers Tyrone.
