Robben facing ankle scan

27/03/2005 - 15:31:55
Chelsea winger Arjen Robben admits he is getting fed up with his mounting injury problems after limping off during Holland’s 2-0 win over Romania in Bucharest yesterday.

But Robben has not yet given up hope of playing against Armenia on Wednesday in Eindhoven despite lasting only 22 minutes of the World Cup qualifier against Romania.

Initial reports suggested Robben had suffered a serious calf injury but he is now hopeful that he can soon be back in action.

Robben, who has only recently returned to action for Chelsea following a foot injury, said: “I have good hopes that it is not that bad but the game against Armenia will probably come too soon.

“I am starting to get really angry about these injuries,” he added.

Holland coach Marco van Basten will wait for further reports from his doctors before deciding whether to call up a replacement.

Van Basten said: “The doctors say the problems are in his left ankle and left knee. They will do an MRI scan this evening before they can tell us any more.”
