Students edged out by Harlequins
UCD 17 Belfast Harlequins 22
An out-of-sorts UCD went down to their third defeat in four games at Belfield today as high-flying Belfast Harlequins edged them.
Minus South African midfield wizard WP Strauss, 'Quins were heavily reliant on Ireland Sevens captain Ian Humphreys and he duly obliged - scoring 12 points in a man-of-the-match display.
Fly-half Humphreys left very little to task, especially in the first half, as he guided the Ulstermen to a 10-3 break lead.
Centre John 'Grumpy' Anderson was all smiles as he nipped in for the first of two tries, adding to Humphreys' early penalty. All UCD had to show for the first half was a 25-metre Eoghan Hickey drop goal.
Keeping the accurate Hickey out of penalty range was key for 'Quins in the second half and although they allowed Ireland Under-21 Stephen Grissing and Leinster scrum-half Brian O'Riordan in for tries, a second for Anderson - coupled with a Humphreys' dart over - saw the points go to the visitors.
