Gardaí recommend privatised, mobile speed cameras

26/03/2005 - 08:59:21
The government has been advised to set up privatised, mobile speed cameras at several accident black spots around the country.

The report was ordered as part of garda plans to reach their target to carry out 11 million speed checks a year, about five times the current rate.

It recommends the mobile speed camera system should be set up at more than 200 accident black spots, and be operated entirely by a private company.

Minister for Justice Michael McDowell is expected to receive the report in the coming weeks.
