Rooney no problem for Eriksson
England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson insists Wayne Rooney is playing with a ‘big smile’ on his face – despite reports of an alleged incident in a nightclub earlier this week.
The 19-year-old was alleged to be involved in a fracas in Manchester earlier this week, but Eriksson claims the teenager has not been affected during training.
Eriksson told Sky Sports News: “He’s fine, a big smile on his face every morning. He’s very good.”
However, Eriksson understands the intense pressure his players are under and reminded them it is part being an England international.
He told a press conference televised by Sky Sports News: “I was a young man myself many years ago. It’s normal to go out to a restaurant or pub.
“It’s important to choose the time to do it. He (Rooney) was not on club or England duty so I don’t see a problem. For me it is closed, absolutely.
“If you are in the England sqaud you have to be prepared for things like that, if you are not you should not be in the squad. We are all criticised, so we have to be prepared and try to do the right things.”
