Dept failing special needs children - INTO

24/03/2005 - 13:24:55
The Irish National Teachers Organisation has criticised the Department of Education for failing to provide enough resources for children with special needs.

The criticism was put forward at a meeting of the Oireachtas education committee attended by representatives from the INTO, TUI and ASTI.

INTO spokesman John Carr told the meeting: "The reality is that current levels of provision for special needs children, much improved as it is on previous years, is not sufficient to provide a fair and equitable system.

"In short, it contributes to a failure to reach excellence for special needs children."
