Pandiani close to agreeing Brum deal: Agent
Walter Pandiani is close to agreeing a permanent move to Birmingham but the fee demanded by Deportivo La Coruna remains a stumbling block, according to his agent Francis Martin.
Pandiani has expressed his desire to move to St Andrews after quickly becoming a cult hero with the fans during his loan spell.
But Deportivo are looking for a fee in the region of around £4m (€5.8m) while Blues believe a £3m 9€4.3m) figure is more realistic.
Martin said: “The player’s contract is near enough sorted out but Birmingham have not reached an agreement with Deportivo who are not moving on the fee. Once a fee has been agreed the rest of the formalities won’t take long but Deportivo have got to be realistic.
“There’s also little point in them keeping an unhappy player and Walter has made it clear he wants to stay at Birmingham.”
Birmingham boss Steve Bruce insisted: “There is no immediate rush. We are in pole position because Walter is here and there are eight games to go and we will see what happens over the next few weeks.
“I’ve seen all sorts of things being reported saying he’s going here, there and everywhere. He’s our player to the end of the season and over the next few weeks, we will see what develops.
“But it is clear the fans have taken to him and in the recent game at West Brom he played with the help of injections in an ankle injury when many players wouldn’t have even considered playing.”
