Government changes child abuse inquiries

The Government has published a bill to amend the terms of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse.

It will mean that the Commission won't have to hold a full hearing into each allegation.

Instead, each complainant will be interviewed and the Committee will then call as many witnesses as it deems necessary to a formal hearing.

Minister for Education Mary Hanafin says it should mean the commission will be able to complete its work and report on its findings within the next few years.
