Ad campaign sparks jump in calls to Women’s Aid helpline

23/03/2005 - 12:23:10
The Women's Aid organisation has reported a 64% jump in calls to its domestic violence helpline following a recent television campaign by the Department of Justice.

The organisation said it received more than 1,000 extra calls over the three-week period in February and March when the End the Silence campaign was running.

Women's Aid director Margaret Martin said: "The ad campaign has been really effective and we're very, very encouraged by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform's commitment to the issue of violence against women.

"We really hope that it signals a commitment to raising awareness of the issue because we know that something like this is making a difference."
