BA increases fuel surcharge

22/03/2005 - 13:30:54
British Airways hit passengers with a further increase in its fuel surcharge today after seeing oil prices remain at record highs.

Virgin Atlantic increased its levy last night and BA followed suit by lifting its long-haul charge by £6 to £16 a flight – £32 for a return trip. The figure for a short-haul trip will increase from £4 a flight to £6.

BA described the increase – applying to tickets issued from Monday – as “unavoidable” and said it faced a £300m (€432m) hike in its annual fuel bill.
