Powerscourt arrives safely in Dubai

21/03/2005 - 07:47:20
Aidan O’Brien’s Powerscourt has arrived safely in Dubai ahead of his run in the Group One Dubai Sheema Classic, one of the main supporting races on the Dubai World Cup card.

The globetrotting five-year-old is set to be a first runner for O’Brien in the UAE when he takes his chance in the 12-furlong race on the turf.

Powerscourt, disqualified from first place in last year’s Arlington Million, could clash with Godolphin’s Cherry Mix, the Andrew Balding-trained Phoenix Reach and Michael Stoute’s Maraahel.

Meanwhile Stagelight has suffered a setback and will miss next Saturday’s UAE Derby at Nad Al Sheba.

The three-year-old colt opened his account in a seven-furlong race back in January before following up with a three-length win in the UAE 2000 Guineas on his last start.

Trainer Jeremy Noseda, speaking on his website www.jeremynoseda.co.uk, said: “I feel very sad for the owners and also for my staff who have put in a big effort to get the horse to this point.”
