Cullen ready to present Airport terminal proposals

21/03/2005 - 14:13:44
Minister for Transport Martin Cullen has indicated he is in a position to present proposals to the cabinet on the future of Dublin Airport.

Reports at the weekend suggested Mr Cullen and the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, had reached an agreement with trade unions whereby a second terminal at the airport would remain in public ownership.

In return, the unions have reportedly agreed to the part-privatisation of Aer Lingus.

The move would be opposed by Ryanair, which has been extremely vocal in its campaign for an independent terminal to compete with the existing facility in Dublin.

Asked about the matter this morning, Mr Cullen refused to reveal the details of his proposals, but said: "There is a range of issues that the Government need to be settled on and clear on.

"I'm now in a position to discuss them in detail with the Government. Clearly we do want to move the process on to get clarity on all of these matters."
