Ames and Howell beat the weather

19/03/2005 - 08:57:51
Charles Howell and Stephen Ames were tied for the clubhouse lead when play was suspended during the second round of the Bay Hill Invitational in Florida.

On a day when just a handful of players completed the round due to Thursday’s long weather delay, Howell and Ames both shot 68 to move to five under par on 139 – one shot ahead of Vijay Singh, who also carded a 68.

First-round leader Joe Ogilvie was also on five under but had completed only three holes in fading light at the Bay Hill course.

Tiger Woods, who shot an opening 71, did not have time to start his second round.

Northern Ireland duo Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell have yet to begin their second rounds. Clarke has it all to do on four over, while McDowell lies just two shots off the pace on three under.

Play will resume early on Saturday with the second round expected to be completed by early afternoon, and the third round starting almost immediately afterwards.
